Themes of migration and navigation have always been a big part of Tui’s work.
In 2004 she won The Martin Hughes Contemporary Pacific Art Award and travelled to the
Cook Islands and Samoa. In 2008 she went to Taiwan as Artist In Residence at Kaohsiung
Fine Arts. In 2025 Tui won the Creative NZ Pātaka Aniva Residency Porirua.
Tui has undertaken commissions in NZ and internationally, these include carved seats for the Le Quesnoy commemorative gardens in Northern France and most recently a carved pou for the gardens of a Tāmaki Makaurau rehabilitation centre.
