Beaded brooches in red/white by Ofa Filoialii
My brooches were inspired by the coral in the sea. Using modern materials to create a 3D statement piece to wear. As a Tongan Artist we love our colours so I have created them in a mix of colors, plain, or different shades to create these one of a kind hand sewn pieces.
About the artist:
Being an artist has always been in my veins. I enjoy and love the idea of making nothing into something. My Grandma woven handbags, my mum crochet scrunchies and dad was a carpenter. So creativity started before I was born. Making handmade items gives me Joy, Peace and Love, I end up in my own imagination and peaceful world. Seeing what a plain canvas can become, planting a seed and ending up with a tree that is fruitful. Having God on my side has been the center of all my Journey. Coming from a christian background. Praying and asking and thanking Jesus for the gifts he gives and the help and support of my husband, kids and friends has been the highlight of my journey as I don't know where God will lead me to next but that is the journey of the unknown. walk by faith and not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5;7.
In Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Chirst who strengthens me. Has been a verse that helps me get through the hard times in life. I studied at MIT for visual arts, and further my studies in fashion Tech. As God continued to lead me I have in the past joined some fashion competitions and did a few exhibitions. I'm married to Dave who is also an artist himself. We have 5 tall and blessed childrens. At this stage of life making arts and crafts to sell at the markets has also been a teaching lesson for me and my kids. Passing down knowledge to give them an understanding of how life is and how to earn. You have to sell something to buy something. Meaning you have to do the work to have something to sell and use that earning to buy something like food hehe.
