Flat White Tumbler - Hōrua by THEA CERAMICS:
Esther McDonald (ngā puhi, ngāti wai, ngāti pukinga and pakeha) is a ceramic artist, who runs and owns Thea Ceramics. Esther specialises in wheel thrown pottery on small scale production, making pieces for every day use. Thea ceramics pieces are contemporary stoneware pieces, inspired by where the sea meets the land. Esther works from her garden studio on Waiheke Island with the support of her small team. Pottery is in the family with her Nan Althea Kypers (which thea is named after) being a studio potter, teaching her uncle Shane Mcdoanld and then Shane teaching Esther when she was living in Melbourne Australia form 2009-2014. Thea ceramics works towards having well loved and functional ware that is a favourite in any home.
Hand thrown on the potters wheel in brutalist clay and doubled dipped in bespoke hōrua glaze. Hōrua means baked kōkōwai in te reo Māori, kōkōwai is a deep red brown earth pigment, culturally and spiritually important to māori, used in decoration and ceremony. Hōrua is inspired by kōkōwai and this glaze is a celebration of wild uku/clay and earth pigments. It is a deep red glaze with chocolate brown stain glaze. The brutalist clay is a hard waring clay, that has a light feel and concrete look.
Flat white tumblers are 9-10cm high and hold around 320ml in volume.
All Thea ceramics are hand made so sizes and colours vary, they are dishwasher safe and are intended for everyday use.
Moana Fresh X Aunty Tommy's Koko Pods 200g (Pusi Urale Special Edition Art Label):
We are a specialist koko (cocoa) roaster based in Auckland. We make Pacific drinking chocolate called Koko Samoa from 100% cacao paste. Our koko contains no additives, has no added sugar, gluten free, & milk free. Koko Samoa is not like traditional drinking chocolate! Because it is not processed and contains no sugar, it is bitter to the taste. We use only premium ingredients from Pacific farms in Samoa, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands. Seki!
Moana Fresh X Aunty Tommy's have teamed up to bring you a Special Edition of Koko Pods featuring artist Pusi Urale's iconic Samoa Village painting. Pusi Urale is a Samoan artist based in Avondale, Tamaki Makaurau. At 86 years old, she is well known for her bold and vibrant paintings based on her memories of Samoan village life. Seki a le koko!
Aunty Tommy's Koko paste is 100% strength and contains no added sugar or sweeteners. While it looks like chocolate, it does not taste like chocolate. Our commitment to excellence ensures that every cup of Koko Samoa is a pure and enjoyable experience. Treat your taste buds to a sip of Samoa's rich cacao heritage with our Koko Drinking Chocolate Pods. Our blend of Pacific and Samoan beans are expertly roasted then blended for a unique and delicious drinking chocolate experience! Single serve means these can be made quickly in a cup while still retaining that traditional flavour you know and love. A milder taste profile which includes fruity, nutty, floral, and spicy notes. Samoan cacao often also contains a pleasant bitterness that underlines the cacao's uniqueness.

This artwork is inspired by memories of my mother's hibiscus bush that adorned the front of our family homestead for decades, in Kingsland. The Hibiscus postcard can be used as a gift card to celebrate an event or special occasion, or framed as a small artwork for display.
