Marouna is a bilingual Cook island māori and English language book that tells the story of a warrior named Marouna. Born in Rarotonga, Marouna is summoned by his grandfather, who lives in Aitutaki, to come to Aitutaki and rescue the people from a group of foreigners known as the Aitu. The Aitu are threatening the peace and prosperity of the people of Aitutaki, and only Marouna has the strength and courage to stand up to them.

As Marouna sets out on his mission, he faces many challenges and obstacles. He must navigate treacherous waters and overcome fierce battles in order to reach Aitutaki and fulfill his destiny. Along the way, Marouna gathered strong warriors from Mangaia, Atiu, Mitiaro and Mauke to help him in his quest to rescue Aitutaki from foreign invaders.

The book is written in both Cook Island Maori and English, providing readers with the opportunity to learn about the language and culture of the Cook Islands. The story is engaging and exciting, making it a great read for anyone interested in the history and traditions of the Cook Islands. Author Clinton Hewett (Aitutaki, Rarotonga, European) is an artist, woodcarver and author from Aitutaki, Cook Islands. He creates oil paintings as well as digital paintings and illustrations inspired by narratives from both historic and contemporary Cook Island cultural themes.
