Aroha atu, Aroha mai  (Love received, Love returned) these potāe were born from a need to be hopeful in the current climate in Aotearoa. We need to stand as Māori with Tauiwi for Toitū te Tiriti.

For Kara Wallace (Ngāpuhi, Ngaituteauru) her use of the phrase Aroha atu, Aroha mai stems from a strong desire to give her tama and her future mokopuna the gift of Te Reo Māori, Te Ao Māori, Tikanga Māori that wasn’t given to her Pāpā or her. She is actively on her journey to reclaim her Māoritanga me te Kōrero Māori. It is about declonising reo, spaces and places for them, being unapologetically proud to be Māori.
