Momoe i manu ae ala atea'e Tasker
51 x 80cm (Handmade Mulberry paper)
Re-Generation of Indigenous land our tupuga are always present. Above and below, they surround us. A malu sits center at the top of the border, a symbol of protection representing the four walls of a fale, also crawling within the piece are centipedes, adding more symbolic representation of protection and guidance.
Traditionally, Sāmoans believe in dying in their home and being buried on their land the next day to prevent the spirit from causing misfortune for their aiga. The connection between blood and land is very significant to Fa'a Sāmoa, the Sāmoan Way. Laws have been created to protect land, continuously keeping it in indigenous hands within the family.'
